This program was established in 1984 to identify
and assess the condition of variety of native Maryland trees, which
had suffered from years of neglect. To cover the cost of bringing
back and maintaining the health of these trees, this program was
established. Later the program was expanded to include the planting
of new trees. Today there are 45 parents who have adopted 75 trees.
On April 6, 2003 a directory of the trees with
its list of donors and their dedications was formally dedicated
on the grounds of the park. Identifying tree markers were also dedicated.
The directory is located under the largest tulip poplar near the
ruins, which was adopted by the Friends. Visitors to the park who
want to see the trees can consult the directory or be guided by
a brochure
The second phase of this program will get under way
during the next year. For more information, contact the park.
